Top 5 tips for YOU to stay motivated with online courses

Nowadays, online courses and all sorts of online learning have rapidly gained popularity over the last few years, as technology continues to improve. To many, this should come as no surprise as in fact with the internet at our fingertips, we have access to vast oceans of knowledge and so it is no wonder that many of us would like to make use of it, to learn and improve, whether that is educationally or simply just to widen one’s skill set. Certain studies show that around 80% of people that sign up for online courses don’t actually end up completing them. With that in mind, if you are someone that wants to have a go at some online courses, it is crucial that you know how to stay motivated in order to complete your online studies.

Here are my top 5 tips to help keep you motivated and let you make the most out of your learning

1.Make sure to choose the course that’s right for YOU

Choosing to learn something that suits YOU and YOUR interests is one of the most essential steps to take before undergoing any online courses. This is because if you choose a course that you are in not passionate about nor interested in, it will not only completely de-motivate you, but it will also most likely waste your time. For you to really benefit from your learning, you must be motivated and enjoy that which you are studying, whilst at the same time keeping a clear practical goal in mind. Instead of spending time learning something you don’t really care about, and perhaps doing it for the money or living someone else’s recommendation of what type of learning to pursue. Learning someone else’s recommended passion will only lead to wasting your time and efforts.

As Steve Jobs once said “Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life” Think carefully about what course you want to study and especially what skills you would like to gain or perhaps what improvements will it add to your working methods. Think about it, is it really for you, Is it of benefit to you?

2.Make sure to keep a plan of your days’ schedule

Keeping a routine or schedule of some sort that you adhere to throughout your days and weeks of taking an online course, is also a very important aspect of making the most of your learning. If you want to make sure you don’t fall into the habit of forgetting or maybe even skipping your online courses or lessons, then keeping to a specifically planned routine in your day will go a long way to helping you concentrate on your learning. As the great saying goes If you fail to plan, then you plan to fail.

However, do not be mistaken;although long hours of rigorous learning may work as a strategy for some, for many this will only go to ruin their motivation. So, socialise and connect with others as well as making sure to take breaks and interesting activities throughout the day to keep yourself energetic and with high spirits to sail through your online courses. This nicely leads on to my next top tip…

3.Keep active!

KEEP ACTIVE!! Make sure to exercise and move around. Keep your blood flowing and keep fit. These are all essential to improving your learning capabilities so make sure to never underestimate the useful effects of exercise.

According to the Harvard Medical School, studies show that regular exercise changes the brain to improve not only one’s memory but also their thinking skills. Have regular workouts and this will be sure to boost the effectiveness of your online learning.

4.Have a designated study space for doing work

By keeping a tidy study space where you do your work from, it reduces the urge to make yourself comfortable on the couch for example. This is because as much as we would all like to make ourselves nice and cosy while studying, this comfortability does not always bring about great productivity. However, a designated study space free of any distractions is likely to sharpen the mind and improve concentration.

As well as this, it will help differentiate between your world of studying and education, from your social life and entertainment. This will help you focus when in your study area, so make sure to choose a good place to study in.

5.Reward yourself!

Last but certainly not least, make sure to REWARD YOURSELF with a treat after spending long amounts of time with your online course. As humans we always need something nice to look forward to, especially in the short term to keep yourself motivated. So, after doing lots of work, don’t be afraid to treat yourself to a little something nice. Why not, you deserve it!

Thats all of my top 5 tips to help you keep motivated and raring to go, and to learn as much as possible from the online courses that the internet has to offer.

Have a good day and don’t give up on your studies!
